A Beautiful Holy City

Peace and all Good!

The Book of Revelation today gives us a beautiful vision of a holy city “coming down out of heaven adorned as a bride for her husband.” (Rev. 21:2) What would such a holy city be like? We often think of cities as nasty places where wealth and poverty live side by side and greed abounds — the divides of those who have and those who have not are keenly felt there. There is lots of opportunities, but unfortunately, not all of the opportunities are good. But the “holy city” St. John visions today is where God lives among us. There is no division there—no pain, no mourning, and no death. Do we want to live in such a city? No competition, no “in crowd,” no prejudice? Are we ready for the New Jerusalem? Now is the time for us to live as a citizen of this holy city. Denounce prejudice. Build community—not division. Be generous in the face of poverty. Let us be men and women filled with the love and compassion that Jesus commands of us today!

I have a special notice for all heads of ministry—English and Spanish ministries. You are urged to attend a very important and informative “Heads of Ministry Meeting’ on June 1st. This will be an excellent opportunity for the leaders of the many ministries of our parish to get together to share ideas and to learn more about the major programs and projects of our parish community. Please see the bulletin for more information, and please plan to attend. Thank you.

My friends, it’s time to “Rock Around the Clock” at our spectacular “50’s Evening of Music, Dance, Food and Fun!” For many of us, this will be a delightful time of nostalgia and for others a chance to celebrate a more innocent and simpler time in our history! Come along and enjoy the evening. All proceeds to benefit parish needs. Get your tickets today! “Let’s Rock!” In closing, I offer my congratulations and God’s blessings upon all of the young people and adults who will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation this Tuesday evening. We pray that the gift of the Holy Spirit will strengthen them in their faith journey with all of its joys and, at times, its difficulties. Please hold these sisters and brothers in your prayers this week. “Come Holy Spirit and fill the hearts of your faithful!”

Love, Fr. Vince
