Each year on August 2nd, Franciscans celebrate the birth of the Franciscan Order at the tiny chapel of Our Lady of the Angels of the Portiuncula down in the Assisi Valley. In 1208 in this place, St. Francis hears the Gospel “Go sell what you have and give to the poor and come follow me.” The Portiuncula or “little portion” as it is called because it is a small church, quickly became the center of Francis’ movement. Until this day, thousands of pilgrims come to the Portiuncula on August 2nd to receive the Great Pardon. It was here at Our Lady of the Angels, that Francis died on October 3, 1226.

We will celebrate a festive Bilingual Eucharist on Friday, August 2nd, at 6:30 p.m. in the Mission Church. A reception will follow!
