Fire News & Facility Updates

Fire and restoration – The clean-up and restoration of the damage from the recent fire in the Serra Center are nearing completion.  The parts of the Serra Center proper that sustained smoke damage have been repainted.  Removal and replacement of the drywall and insulation of the Music / Storage Room are complete.  It is anticipated that the fixtures will be installed and the room painted by the end of April.     Emercon, the contractor that is performing the repairs, estimates that we will have returned use of the space by the 4th of May.

St. Francis Hall Renovation – The COVID19 pandemic has caused the progress in the renovation of St. Francis Hall to slow.  Our contractor has responded to the threat of this illness by limiting the number of workers on the job site.  They hope to be able to assign more staff in early May.  But despite the slowdown, work is continuing.  Concrete work, including new footings, is the next major piece of the construction schedule followed by the installation of new posts and beams.  In addition to this, the City of Oceanside has approved our request to modify the plans to include an expansion of the fire sprinkling system that will include the remaining parts of St. Francis Hall and the entire St. Clare building.  The project is anticipated to be completed this summer.

Parish Center Kitchen –  The sprucing up of the Parish Center kitchen is nearly complete.  Flooring has been replaced, the walls have been painted, the broken skylight is replaced and new cabinets have been installed.  Additionally, we have replaced some old equipment with much needed new equipment.  Much gratitude is extended to the late Margot Etzler, who through her generosity and bequest, made these improvements possible.

Scholarship Prep – Our charter school will continue with distance learning for the remainder of the school year.   Students are continuing their education using all the tools technology offers today: online chats, google homework and distance learning.   School lunches are being distributed three days a week, ensuring students nutritional needs are continuing to be met during the COVID-19 outbreak.
