Pierangelo Sequeri wrote the lyrics for the 2025 Jubilee hymn, Pilgrims of Hope, and Francesco Meneghello composed the music.
The hymn’s themes include creation, fraternity, God’s tenderness, and hope in mankind’s ultimate destination. The motto, “Pilgrims of Hope,” is echoed in the Bible in chapters from the prophet Isaiah.
An international commission in Rome chose the hymn in April 2023 after a competition with 270 entries from 38 countries. Andrew Wadsworth translated the hymn into English.
The theme of the Jubilee Year 2025 is “Pilgrims of Hope”. The year is intended to be a year of hope for a world suffering the impacts of war, the COVID-19 pandemic, and the climate crisis. The Catholic Church’s official hymn for Jubilee 2025 was adapted into Tagalog by OPM singer Jamie Rivera. The Tagalog version is titled “Ningas ng Pag-asa” and is available on various music streaming platforms.
HYMN FOR THE JUBILEE YEAR 2025
Pilgrims of Hope
Original text: Pierangelo Sequeri
English translation: Andrew Wadsworth
Music: Francesco Meneghello
Like a flame, my hope is burning; may my song arise to you:
Source of life that has no ending, on life’s path, I trust in you.
Ev’ry nation, tongue, and people find a light within your Word.
Scattered fragile sons and daughters, find a home in your dear Son.
God, so tender and so patient, dawn of hope, you care for all.
Heav’n and earth are recreated by the Spirit of Life set free.
Raise your eyes; the wind is blowing, for our God is born in time.
Son made man for you and many who will find the way in him.
