Keep That Easter Fire Burning

Dear Friends:

We continue with great joy this beautiful Easter Season on this Sixth Sunday Of Easter. It may be difficult for us to keep that “Easter fire” burning.  This beautiful liturgical season will come to a solemn close on Pentecost on June 9th.  Next Sunday is the Feast of the Ascension of the Lord.  But, when you get down to it, every time we celebrate the Eucharist together, we are celebrating a “mini-Easter Sunday”.  The holy water we feel during the Sprinkling Rite at every Mass since the Easter Vigil reminds us of our baptism and that God’s grace constantly rains down upon us like a gentle Spring rain.  The Church continues to grow.  Even though Jesus had to return to the Father, he did not leave us orphans. He promised to send the Holy Spirit to guide and form us as a church community.  Although there have been some dark periods in our Catholic history, nonetheless, recovery, peace, and grace have come about because of the Holy Spirit. With the Holy Spirit, we are assured of a vibrant and grace-filled Church now and as we head to the future.

Do you have your tickets yet for “Rock Around the Clock”?  Come along to enjoy a totally delightful evening of nostalgia and good times.  Featured will be 50’s music and dance, old fashioned Diner style hamburgers, chili dogs, root beer floats, fries, popcorn and a lot more!  If you wish, you can come dressed in your favorite 50’s outfit. Special prizes, silent auction items and other surprises await you!  Please purchase your tickets right after Mass today in Serra Gardens. This is a “fun-raiser” for our parish budget.  See you there!

Once again, I urge all the heads of English Speaking and Spanish Speaking Ministries to attend a special meeting next Saturday morning.  This will be an excellent way for us to grow ever closer as a Christian community made up of many cultures!  Thank you!

This Monday is Memorial Day.  We will remember all who have gone before us, especially those who have died in defense of “liberty and justice for all”. Our Mass will begin at 8:00 a.m. in Serra Center after which we will process to the cemetery to bless the graves of your loved ones.  May they rest in peace.  Amen.

Love, Fr. Vince
