The Joy of Generosity

Do you have a family budget? Perhaps you have put money aside each month for housing, a car, food, entertainment. All are vitally important. But does Mission San Luis Rey Parish have a place in your family’s budget?

Scripture talks about giving back to God “first fruits” or the “choicest portion,” returning a portion of our income to God. This prayerful action is a powerful expression of God’s place in our lives.

“Where your treasure is, there also lies your heart” (Matthew 6:21).

Giving generously is crucial to the life of your parish. The Church cannot continue without the faithful financial support of its members.   This weekend, you will be asked to prayerfully consider if you are providing generously for the needs of the parish, and then pledge your giving for the upcoming year.  This method of pledged giving enables the parish to plan more appropriately, knowing what resources will be available to support its mission and life.

What does Scripture say about Stewardship of Treasure?

“Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.” (Matthew 10:8)

“Honor the Lord with your wealth and with the first fruits of all your produce; then your barns will be filled with grain, and your vats will overflow with new wine.” (Proverbs 3: 9-10)
