Short Biography

Rev. Macario Torres Torres, O.F.M., affectionately known as Fr. More, was born in Romita, Guanajuato, México, a town rooted in farming, deep religiosity, and rich cultural traditions. Known also as Jacobo, his religious name during his time as a friar in formation, “More” is the name he has been lovingly called since childhood.

Fr. More is the son of Juan and Teresa Torres and one of eleven siblings—six brothers and four sisters. He received his early education in his hometown and experienced a profound call to religious life as a teenager. He entered the Franciscan novitiate and professed his first vows, beginning a journey that would shape his vocation and ministry.

After discerning to leave the community for a time, he taught religion and Spanish at the high school level and continued his formation as a layman, studying theology for two years. He later moved to the United States, living at Casa Juan Diego in San Antonio, Texas, where he studied English and discerned re-entering religious life. He was accepted as a postulant with the Franciscan Province of the Sacred Heart in Joliet, Illinois, and began his novitiate in Cedar Lake, Indiana.

His theological formation continued at the Catholic Theological Union in Hyde Park, Chicago. During this time, he also lived at La Verna Friary and served in pastoral ministry at Saint Anthony Parish in St. Louis, Missouri. On October 19, 2013, he made his solemn profession of vows in St. Louis, and on January 18, 2014, he was ordained a deacon at Saint Peter’s Church in Chicago. He completed his theological studies in May 2014, serving as a deacon at Assumption Parish in Chicago and Saint John the Baptist Parish in Joliet.

Fr. More was ordained to the priesthood on September 27, 2014, and was first assigned as Parochial Vicar at Saint Francis Solanus Parish in Quincy, IL. He later returned to St. John the Baptist Parish in Joliet in the same role. His ministry then brought him to San Antonio, Texas, where he served as Pastor of Mission San Francisco de la Espadaand Saint Frances X. Cabrini Parish.

Currently, Fr. More serves as Parochial Vicar at Mission San Luis Rey Parish in Oceanside, California, where he continues to live out his Franciscan vocation with humility, joy, and dedication. Faithful to the spirit of St. Francis of Assisi, he hopes to be a true instrument of peace, walking alongside the people of God in service, love, and fraternity.

He invites the community to accompany him with their prayers as he embraces this new chapter with open hands and a grateful heart.
Paz y Bien.
