Music Ministry

The Music Ministry at Mission San Luis Rey Parish lifts hearts and voices in praise to God, enriching our liturgies with beauty, joy, and reverence. Through song and instrumental music, the ministry helps the community express faith, hope, and love, deepening our shared prayer experience. Whether seasoned or new to music ministry, all who wish to serve through music are invited to join and help lead the congregation in lifting their souls to God.

Music has been an integral part of worshipping God since at least the time of Moses. As the bishops of our country have taught:

“God, the giver of song, is present whenever his people sing his praises.”
“Thus, it is no wonder that singing together expresses so well the sacramental presence of God to his people.”

At our parish, we are blessed to offer music at all weekend Masses and regularly at the weekday morning Mass. Several choirs are open to all teen and adult parishioners for English and Spanish Masses, as well as the Samoan Choir and the Filipino “Trinity Choir.” The adult choirs usually have assigned Mass times each Sunday or monthly. The Children’s Choir welcomes parish children from grades 3 to 8, singing once a month during the school year at different Mass times in both English and Spanish.

The only requirements to join any choir are:

1. The ability to carry a tune (sing the right notes once you know the song).

2. Commitment to attend weekly rehearsals regularly (an occasional absence is understandable, but consistent participation is essential for the team spirit of the choir).

3. A willingness to learn and grow in musical ability and liturgical awareness.

Being part of a choir is a beautiful way to connect your faith to a physical and emotional act of worship, to build friendships rooted in love for music and for God, and to offer your talents back to the One who has given us everything.
