Welcome to Bereavement Ministry!
The experience of losing a loved one is never easy. When it comes to planning their funeral Mass, the Church’s funeral rites seek to honor our grief while proclaiming Christ’s promise of forgiveness, hope, and resurrection. The Bereavement Ministry at Mission San Luis Rey Parish walks compassionately with families during this sacred time, helping plan the funeral liturgy and offering support rooted in faith, dignity, and care.
This ministry began over 20 years ago as a response to the pastoral need for guidance in moments of grief. Today, trained ministers accompany families with tenderness and practical help, working alongside parish staff and the mortuary of the family’s choice to prepare meaningful and reverent celebrations of life.
Guided by the spirit of St. Francis, Bereavement Ministers offer gentle accompaniment to families in mourning. Through their prayerful presence and careful preparation, they help transform grief into a moment of grace, where tears are met with compassion and the promise of resurrection is quietly proclaimed.
