Offering comfort and consolation in the sure hope of the resurrection.
When a Loved One Dies
First Steps
Arranging a funeral at Mission San Luis Rey Parish requires, as a first step, coordination with a funeral director of your choice.
After meeting with your funeral director, let them know you plan to hold your service at Mission San Luis Rey Parish so they can coordinate logistical details with the Parish.
Next, please call the Parish Office as soon as possible to check the availability of our clergy and worship space.
Funeral Rites
The parish office will assign a Bereavement Minister who will guide you through the planning process.
FUNERAL MASS: This is the central liturgical celebration of the Christian community in memory of the deceased. The Liturgy of the Word, Liturgy of the Eucharist, and Final Commendation are offered. The priest will give a homily, and hymns will be sung. The Bereavement planner will assist you in selecting readings and songs during your planning meeting.
RECEPTION: The parish dining room or St. Francis Hall may be available for rental, depending upon schedule.
Please call the Parish Office for more information.
PREPLANNING:
Preplanning is available with one of our Bereavement ministers. Please call the Parish Office to schedule an appointment.
BULLETIN NOTICE: Believing that prayer makes all the difference, a family member of the deceased person may contact the parish to request inclusion in our “Those Who Have Died” section of the bulletin.
NOVEMBER REMEMBRANCE: On All Souls Day, we invite all families who have recently lost a loved one to attend a special Mass. Their names are honored on a special scroll, and prayers are said for that month for the repose of their souls.
