Eight churches in the Diocese of San Diego, including Mission San Luis Rey Parish and Mission San Luis Rey, have been named by Bishop Michael Pham as pilgrimage sites for the “Year of St. Francis.”
Celebrating the Year of St. Francis
The Jubilee Year of St. Francis invites all pilgrims to transform their hope into action, following the example of St. Francis of Assisi and becoming models of a holy life and constant witnesses of peace.
Mission San Luis Rey Parish and Mission San Luis Rey have been designated as Pilgrimage Sites for the Year of St. Francis.
Inspired by the “Pardon of Assisi” granted by Pope Honorius III to St. Francis, a plenary indulgence will be granted to all faithful who make a pilgrimage to our Parish or Mission and complete the usual conditions (sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions).
The elderly, sick, and homebound also will be able to obtain the plenary indulgence by spiritually joining the Jubilee celebrations and offering their prayers, pains, or sufferings to God.
