Celebrating Candlemas Day

Holy Day

On the Feast of the Presentation, Sunday, February 2nd, at all Masses, please bring a candle to Mass with you for a special blessing.

Traditionally on this day, we celebrate the presentation of Jesus. In the temple were Simeon and Anna who had prayed for many years to see the Messiah.  Simeon then holds the child Jesus and proclaims: “Lord, you may dismiss your servant in peace, for my eyes have seen your salvation, a light for the gentiles and the glory of your people Israel.”  Today on this feast of light, the Church blesses candles as a sign of the light of Christ breaking the darkness of the world. Thus, today is also called Candlemas Day. All are invited to please bring a candle from home for a special procession and blessing at every Mass.
