The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is a Catholic holy day that celebrates the belief that Mary, the Mother of Our Lord Jesus Christ, was assumed body and soul into heaven at the end of her life. It is a Holy Day of Obligation, meaning that all Catholics are asked to gather together in joyful prayer, remembering Mary’s role in our salvation and our hope for eternal life and union with Jesus.
