Normalmente la primera lectura en la liturgia dominical va en relación con el pasaje del Evangelio. Este Cuarto Domingo de Cuaresma la conexión parece ser una fiesta. El libro de Josué habla de la llegada de los israelitas a la Tierra Prometida, donde ya no necesitaban ser alimentados con maná lo venían haciendo durante su tiempo en el desierto. Por su infidelidad habían estado vagando mucho más tiempo de lo esperado en el desierto. Pero ya han sido perdonados, y por eso celebran la Pascua con comida de la tierra.
En el Evangelio escuchamos una parábola sobre otra fiesta. También es una celebración del perdón, porque el hijo pródigo ha vuelto a su padre, y el perdón del padre nos muestra qué tan dispuesto está Dios a perdonarnos a nosotros también. Pero, la parábola no termina ahí. Sino que continúa con el reclamo del hijo mayor sobre la fiesta que su padre a pedido organizar para su hermano.
Los invito a que prestemos atención a las palabras del padre cuando dice, “todo lo mío es tuyo.” No solo está siendo sentimental porque son familia. Recordemos que el hermano menor ya había recibido su herencia, así que todo lo que quedaba algún día iría al hermano mayor. Ese hijo no puede perdonar a su hermano y está enojado con el padre por haberle dado la bienvenida al pródigo. Aquí es donde entramos nosotros.
La mayoría de nosotros no tenemos problema en pedirle perdón a Dios, pero se nos puede hacer difícil cuando tenemos que perdonar a los demás. Estamos tan acostumbrados a pensar en términos de justicia que no nos satisface el perdón. Cuando me han hecho daño, humanamente sentimos ganas de devolver el golpe. Cuando vemos una película de acción, no queremos que el malo se dé por vencido y pida perdón; y esperamos que el protagonista lo destruya.
Sería bueno que nos preguntáramos de dónde viene la idea de justicia que vivimos en la sociedad. ¿Es la expectativa humana la regla de ojo por ojo? ¿O es la justicia de Dios, que es misericordia y perdón? Cuando alguien te cierra el paso en el tráfico, ¿te dan ganas de muchas cosas menos de ofrecer perdón? Quizá, deberíamos cambiar y asumir que para los Cristianos la regla de oro debería ser “Perdona a los demás como te gustaría que te perdonaran a ti.” Jesús dio su vida por los pecados del mundo, incluyendo los tuyos y los míos ¿Tenemos derecho a pedir más?
