Holy Orders is the sacrament through which the mission entrusted by Christ to his apostles continues to be exercised in the Church until the end of time; thus, it is the sacrament of apostolic ministry. It includes three degrees: episcopate, presbyterate, and diaconate.   (Catechism of the Catholic Church 1536)

Everyone has a vocation. Through baptism, we share a common vocation: “To love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and to love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27). Some live a loving life as singles or married people. Others are called to love God and serve the Kingdom as priests or religious.

At Mission San Luis Rey Parish, we are blessed to have Franciscan Friars and priests standing at the heart of our community.  These men are called to “give our lives to the Gospel of Jesus Christ in humble and compassionate service, with special concern for the poor and marginalized.  Dedicated to Christ with his open arms — and inspired by Francis, who embraced the leper — we promote justice, healing, peace, and reconciliation.”

Walking beside the friars in prayer and community, we are called to pray and call to mind our vocation awareness.   We hope that MSLRP is a “fertile ground” where many new priests, brothers, religious, and lay religious are called by God and nurtured by our community.
